What To Expect at an Office Visit

At your first office visit, you will be asked to fill out a confidential health history form. Please arrive about 15 minutes early so all paperwork is filled out prior to your appointment time. If time permits, forms will be mailed out early before your scheduled appointment. That way, you can fill them out at home, and bring them with you to your first visit.

I will discuss with you the reason for your visit, and review the questionnaire to clarify all symptoms and health concerns you may currently be experiencing. A thorough understanding of your past and current health issues will help me to create the best treatment plan for your individual needs. At this time I will be happy to answer any questions you may have about acupuncture and related therapies.

A gown will be provided for you to change into. Part of a Chinese medical exam includes looking at your tongue, and taking your pulse to help clarify your specific energetic imbalances.

You will then relax comfortably on the table. Prior to any needling, I swab all points and areas with alcohol. While you breathe deeply and relax to soothing music, I will use a very gentle needling technique to help bring your body back into a healthy state. Most people find treatment extremely relaxing, and even fall asleep after the needles are inserted. The needles are retained anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes, depending on your specific health needs.

I may also use any of the following acupuncture-related therapies to enhance the therapeutic effects.

  • far–infrared heat

  • cupping

  • moxabustion

  • acupressure

  • electric–stimulation

  • tui na massage

After I remove the needles, I will discuss any lifestyle recommendations that may be helpful in your healing process. This may include herbal medicine, dietary and nutrition modifications, or stress reduction techniques.
