Credentials

Susan Jakary received a Master of Science Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, California. At this time, California has the highest standards of education and licensing in the country, requiring over 3,000 hours of in-class and clinical training in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. The program also included an extensive western biomedicine curriculum. In order to maintain her California State Board license, Ms Jakary regularly attends health symposiums and programs around the country to stay current on the latest in treatment and medical research. Jakary received her BBA from University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor.

To enhance her knowledge of this 3,000–year–old ancient healing system, Ms. Jakary spent time in China visiting hospitals and working with medical practitioners there to refine her clinical skills. She is nationally certified by the NCCAOM in acupuncture and Chinese herbology.

Ms. Jakary has also worked at the Center for Integrative Medicine within the Henry Ford Hospital Health System for the past several years. Here she collaborated with a team of holistic practitioners, in conjunction with medical doctors. She has been a participating practitioner in funded research studies to show the efficacy of acupuncture. Jakary has also educated medical residents through week–long clinical rotations, has lectured to a variety of organizations and physicians, and has participated in mentoring program field visits for first year U of M medical students.

Prior to working in Michigan, she had a private acupuncture practice in the Los Angeles area. To add to her repertoire of healing tools, Jakary has explored many other healing modalities over the years, with highly respected experts in the field of holistic medicine. For instance, she learned from the master Dr Kam Yuen in the field of energetic medicine and martial arts. She explored techniques in mind–body and ayurvedic medicine with Dr. Deepak Chopra and Dr. David Simon, and also did field work with patients using music therapy for healing.

Because of her extensive training and experience in Western biomedicine in addition to holistic medicine, Susan can successfully treat a wide range of acute and chronic disorders.
